From paint brushes and paint rollers to clean-up tools, Colours of Maple has everything you need to get your home decorating project done right.

Paint applicator tools
Good-looking, long-lasting interior paint results don’t stop with your paint choices. Picking quality paint brushes and rollers also impacts how well your paint looks and lasts. For optimum results, opt for the best tools your budget will allow.

Essential painting tools for your home decorating project:

  • A two-inch angular paint brush to take care of woodwork and window frames,
  • A two-inch trim paint brush for narrow areas that require a little extra control, and
  • A roller frame and cover with an extension pole.

The staff at Colours of Maple can help you determine the right paint roller cover size for your project (yes, it does make a difference!).

Other painting tools that will come in handy:

    • A narrow paint roller for hard-to-reach areas (behind the toilet, for example)
    • A painter’s mitt for exposed pipes and contoured surfaces
    • A paint shield to protect windows, carpets or other surfaces adjacent to what you are painting
    • A paint edger with guide wheels to take the place of pesky masking tape

Other necessary tools
There’s nothing worse than starting a paint decorating project and then realizing you’re missing an essential tool. Following is a list of everything you’ll need, whether you’re painting a single room or the whole house.

  • A screwdriver. Can be used to remove wall plates and door hardware, but also handy for prying open paint cans.

  • Sandpaper. Stock up on coarse, medium, and fine grades.

  • Masking tape. Keep plenty on hand for protecting areas that won’t be painted. Can also be used to keep drop cloths in place.

  • Drop cloths. Protects floor, furniture, and other valuables that can’t be removed from the room.

  • Paint tray. Makes mixing paint or using a paint roller a breeze. Pick up some paint tray liners if you plan to use multiple paint colours during the same home decorating project.

  • 5-Gallon Mixing Bucket. Ideal for quickly mixing paint from multiple cans.

  • Clean rags. Keep a few nearby to quickly clean up spills or splatters. See more cleaning tips here.

  • Wall cleaner and sponge. Use to clean the surface prior to painting. A clean, dry surface is more likely to hold the paint and provide long-lasting results.

  • Paint safety. Please check out our Paint Safety and MSDS page for all of the tools and information you'll need to paint safely.
