Concrete Paint

A few coats of concrete paint can spruce up even the most boring slab of concrete. Just be sure that you’re using the right type of paint; regular floor paint is fine if the concrete never sees the light of day, but heavy-duty exterior paint is necessary if your handiwork will be exposed to the elements.

Also, please keep in mind that most concrete surfaces need a primer or sealer before you even think about applying the first coat of paint. (And that’s after you’ve thoroughly cleaned the area in question.) Please see Preparing to Paint for more detailed instructions.

Colours of Maple has all the tools you’ll need to help you turn your concrete floors into works of art – stop by today for a crash course in everything you’ll need to get started!

Deck & Fence Stain

Staining is a great way to protect a new deck or pretty up an old fence that’s been around the block a few times.  Wood that isn’t treated can turn gray with mould, and regular power-washing can severely deteriorate the wood’s surface and strip years from its life. Applying a deck or fence stain, on the other hand, is a simple, inexpensive way to keep your woodwork looking nice and staying healthy for a good 5-10 years (depending on weather conditions in your area).

Once the staining itself is finished, you’ll want to apply a sealer to protect the stain – after all, you don’t want to be redoing the job six months down the road! Some of our deck and fence stains have a sealer mixed in, which can save you a few hours of back-breaking labour. Visit your local Colours of Maple store to learn more about our deck and fence stains.

Swimming Pool Paint

Whether you’re going for a fun design or a simple splash of colour, Colours of Maple has a few paint options to help you dress up your swimming pool.

  • Epoxy paint is long-lasting and durable enough to withstand UV rays, harsh pool cleaners, and chemical treatments for up to 10 years.

  • Chlorinated rubber base pool paint isn’t typically as expensive as epoxy paint, but it also doesn’t last as long (average life span is 3-5 years). Chlorinated rubber base pool paint comes in a variety of fun colours and is easy to apply.

  • Water-based acrylic pool paint can be easily applied to any type of surface, and stains can typically be wiped away with ease. The only drawback is that water-based acrylic pool paints don’t usually last more than 2-3 years. If you choose this paint, just know that you’ll be repainting your swimming pool often!

The professionals at Colours of Maple can help you choose the best type of swimming pool paint for your needs. Stop by today for a free consultation!

Garage Floor Paint

Epoxy floor paints are made to resist oil leaks, tracked-in dirt, water, auto grease and other contaminants commonly found on garage floors. Not only do epoxy paints give your garage a nice, polished look, but they are much easier to clean and maintain than your standard concrete.

A wide variety of epoxy paint colours can be hard to find, however, and the concrete preparation part of the project can be cumbersome if not handled properly.

Before you take on your garage floor painting project, head to Colours of Maple for tips sheets and helpful advice to point you in the right direction

Exterior Door Paint

A nice coat of paint on your front door can set the tone for what visitors will see when they step inside, but there are a few things you need to watch out for. For example, if your door was previously covered in latex paint and you decide to give an oil-based paint a shot, you’ll end up with cracks and peels that give alligator’s skin a bad name.

Another issue to consider is exposure to sunlight and other outdoor elements. Most paints exposed to direct sunlight will fade over time, but you’ll get the best result from high-quality acrylic latex exterior paint.

Finally, let’s talk about gloss level. Flat paint finishes are great at hiding simple defects, like fingerprints and everyday grime, but they typically form streaks when you try to clean them. Exterior paints with a higher level of gloss are easier to clean but also show more imperfections. In this instance, it’s a matter of choosing whether you want your cleaning projects to take up less of your time or your energy.

Colours of Maple has a wide variety of exterior paints to meet any of your home decorating requirements. For more design ideas, visit our exterior paint design ideas page or stop by your local Colours of Maple location for a chat with one of our experienced consultants.
